Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources in the Danube River Basin: A Hydrological Modelling Study Using EURO-CORDEX Climate Scenarios

نویسندگان

چکیده

Climate change affects the hydrological cycle of river basins and strongly impacts water resource availability. The mechanistic model PROMET was driven with an ensemble EURO-CORDEX regional climate projections under emission scenarios RCP2.6 RCP8.5 to analyze changes in temperature, precipitation, soil content, plant stress, snow equivalent (SWE) runoff dynamics Danube River Basin (DRB) near (2031–2060) far future (2071–2100) compared historical reference (1971–2000). remain moderate for become severe RCP8.5, exhibiting strong year-round warming trends wetter winters Upper drier summers Lower Danube, leading decreasing summer contents, increasing stress SWE. Discharge seasonality shifts toward winter runoff, while risk high flows increases along entire mainstream low River. Our results reveal change-induced discrepancies between surplus demand space time, likely intensified upstream–downstream inter-sectoral competition DRB change.

Appropriate Hydrological Modelling of Climate Change Impacts on River Flooding

How good should a river basin model be to assess the impact of climate change on river flooding for a specific geographical area? The determination of such an appropriate model should reveal which physical processes should be incorporated and which data and mathematical process descriptions should be used at which spatial and temporal scales. A procedure for determining an appropriate model has...

Hydrological Appraisal of Climate Change Impacts on the Water Resources of the Xijiang Basin, South China

Assessing the impact of climate change on streamflow is critical to understanding the changes to water resources and to improve water resource management. The use of hydrological models is a common practice to quantify and assess water resources in such situations. In this study, two hydrological models with different structures, e.g., a physically-based distributed model Liuxihe (LXH) and a lu...

Assessing Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources in the Songhua River Basin

The Songhua River Basin (SRB) in Northeast China is one of the areas most sensitive to global climate change because of its high-latitude location. In this study, we conducted a modeling assessment on the potential change of water resources in this region for the coming three decades using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). First, we calibrated and validated the model with historical st...

Potential Impacts of Climate Change on Water Resources in the Kunhar River Basin, Pakistan

Pakistan is one of the most highly water-stressed countries in the world and its water resources are greatly vulnerable to changing climatic conditions. The present study investigates the possible impacts of climate change on the water resources of the Kunhar River basin, Pakistan, under A2 and B2 scenarios of HadCM3, a global climate model. After successful development of the hydrological mode...
